Welcome to the A Day Today FAQ! This page is a work in progress, and will continually be updated with more information
pertaining to the use of the site. If your question is unanswered after looking through the FAQ, you can always
ask Ryan. (Once on profile,

1. So, what is A Day Today, and how does it work?
A Day Today is a content sharing community portal that allows users the ability to manage many content parts on a day-to-day basis.
All of this data is maintained over time, so at any point you can go to a given date and see the content you uploaded. Yesterday,
last month, last year, all of your content will be there as it was on the day you uploaded it. In essence, it is a digital scrapbook
of your life that can be shared on multiple levels.
2. How much does it cost to sign up?
Nothing! A Day Today is a free service for you to use. We do, however, display ads on many pages, as they help us pay the bills.
We know that ads can be annoying, but without ad based revenue, we could never offer this service for free.
3. How much storage space do I get?
Every year, you get the ability to upload 2.5 GB's of videos, images and podcasts. This gives you the ability to on
average, upload 7 MB's of content, every day. Currently, the following size limits are applied to content parts:
- Videos - 50 MB each
- Podcasts - 25 MB each
- Images - 2.6 MB each
4. What type of content do I get to manage?
Every day, users of A Day Today get to manage the following pieces of content, that we call "parts":
- Blog
- Comments
- Events
- Image
- Map
- Mood
- Podcast
- Quote
- RSS Feed
- Video
- Weather Feed
5. How far in the past can I manage my content?
You can manage and edit you content over the course of a 14 day window. Once a day is beyond 14 days ago, you cannot create
or edit that content anymore (with the exception of changing its privacy setting).
Why only 14 days? Well, if we let users manage their content with no limitations, you would run out of file storage space very
quickly. This ensures that you can manage content over the course of an entire year. We also feel this service is a time capsule about your life.
Therefore, we think once you get your content in, it should stay as it did the day you submitted it.
6. How does A Day Today allow you to manage your privacy?
A Day Today takes your privacy very seriously. That is why we implemented a privacy model that allows you to make adjustments at many
levels with your content. Here is a brief explanation of the three levels of privacy provided by A Day Today:
- Personal - All of your content, including your account, cannot be viewed by anyone on the site but yourself.
- Private - All of your content can only be viewed by groups that have been granted permission to do so. When
setting a piece of content to private, you will be able to select which groups (that you create) are allowed to see the corresponding
piece of content. Your account is viewable by anyone on the site (searches, profiles, etc).
- Public - All of your content can be viewed by anyone on the site.
Every piece of content that you manage within A Day Today can have a privacy setting adjusted. So, you may one day want a blog to be
personal, and one day for it to be public, and one day for it to be private to share with your friends. You have complete flexibility
over your content.
7. How do user groups work?
Let's face it: all friends are not created equal. Some people we have known all our lives. Some people we just met last night. Some
people we work with. Some people we went to school with. There are moments in your life that you want to share with people, but not just everyone.
That is why we implemented user groups. Every user has the ability to create as many user groups as they wish. When you add someone as your friend,
you can choose what group that user belongs to.
The true power of user groups is found when managing your content. If you want to mark a piece of content as private, you get to choose which groups
of yours can view the content. So, there might be a picture of you during that "one night in college" that you want your college buddies to see,
but not your co-workers or family. Well, you can accomplish that with the creation of user groups.
Many thanks to my friend Tuni for this idea......
8. What is the "day" page?
The day page is where the site comes together. When you go to a user's day page, you see all of their content parts for that given date.
In addition, the day page allows the user to choose a custom style to be applied. With the Style Gallery, you can choose a style that you like
to apply to your day page. Or, if you understand CSS or have a background image that you want to use, you can submit it for approval to be used as your
own.
